3:00 pm - UPDATE - egg this afternoon - we are three for three - YEAH GIRLIES!! 

And once again, this egg is divine!!

With greens from the garden - yum!

Our second egg is still warm - very freshly laid! We can't wait to hear our girls clucking when they lay their eggs.

Amanda has dibs on this one - she'll be enjoying it when she's back from work.

Here's Anthony on October 5th- he soaked the Goji Berries and is inserting them into soil pods for germination.

Each seed gets its only little soil home.

The nursery on the balcony provides lots of light and cover from any big rains.

We're getting some really nice Goji seedlings!

We put our heads together to solve the mystery as to which chicken layed the egg. Here is Black Beauty, a Sex Link....

and Prudence, one of our Ameraucanas. This week when the girls were getting their usual morning visit and feeding, these two began squatting whilst being petted - a very favorable and inviting position for any rooster (which we don't have)! That was our clue that eggs would be forthcoming so we began checking all the nesting boxes in the coop each morning. 

This morning we found this lovely light brown egg! Prudence will be laying blue green eggs so Black Beauty it is.

Eggs don't get fresher than this - the white is very thick, does not spread, and the yolk sits right up.

Beautiful colors - a very white egg white and an orange yolk.

Over Easy on a bed of freshly harvested basil atop a sprouted grain Ezekiel tortilla with raw milk cheddar made from grass fed milk, and a sprinkle of paprika.

And here is the telltale sign that these eggs are the best possible - the deep orange yolk thanks to the girls diet of worms, bugs, ants and any other unfortunate creatures to cross their path (like the big fat caterpillars that Anthony has been liberating from the tomato plants and tossing to the girls) plus their organic feed.
